AnimeNEXT 2023 Commission Scans!

Well hello everyone. I know my Cradle Con commissions post was somewhat delayed for several weeks thanks to being swamped with various different RL events but I'm not letting that happen with the AnimeNEXT 2023 set.

Even if I had overall mixed opinions of the event, the artist's alley still delivered and I managed to get a good haul of commissions by the event's end. And since I don't want to waste too much time before the showcase, here's everything that I got at the con:

Cradle Con 2023 Commission Scans!

This post came a bit later than I would have liked, but oh well.

Last month, I returned to the Long Island comic and pop-culture event Cradle Con for another chance to meet some good friends and favorite artists in the local convention scene, some of whom I haven't seen since last year. Of course, as most of these events go, I purchased some commissions of some of the newer members of the Aozora cast and in the end I ended up with a surprisingly good haul to show off before I venture back out next week for AnimeNext.

But enough talk, here's everything I commissioned at Cradle Con this year:

A new year, a new lineup of commission scans! Last weekend was my first main event of 2023: Castle Point Anime Convention 2023, and I've returned with a small haul of commissions to display. There are two digital commissions from the same event still pending (plus one from a smaller event that occurred the weekend prior), and thus, I'll be showing them at a later date.

With that out of the way, here's the lineup:

Anime NYC 2022 Commission Scans!

Almost two weeks later, I finally got around to posting the full haul of convention commissions from Anime NYC. It's been a busy two weeks following the convention plus I've been keeping up with other hobbies so I didn't find any time to scan these in till now. Better later than never, they always say.

Now that this year's lineup of conventions is over, this will likely be the final showcase of convention commissions till next Spring when Castle Point Anime Convention will kickstart the season of conventions for 2023. In the meantime, you can check out my full coverage of last month's event, as well as New York Comic Con, at this blogpost here.

New York Comic Con 2022 Commission Scans!

One of the biggest conventions of the year, New York Comic Con, happened this past weekend. The artist's alley was a bit too crowded and overwhelming to my liking but I did brave the dense crowds and score some commissions.

The full summary will be posted on my main blog in late November alongside AnimeNYC's summary, since NYCC didn't have enough material for me to work with to fit just one blog entry.

Eternal Con 2022 Commission Scans!

I'm two weeks late to this since times have been a bit on the rougher side for me lately but I have some new convention commissions from Eternal Con 2022 to share! If you want my full thoughts on the convention, I strongly suggest waiting until August, since I'll be posting a dual review of the two conventions in one full post.

Cradle Con 2022: Commission Scans!

Another one of these so soon? Well, yeah.

Last week I attended a local convention of sorts called Cradle Con, which took place at the Cradle of Avation. It's nowhere near as big or as crowded as the Meadowlands Exposition Center that hosted Castle Point Anime Convention the prior month, so I didn't announce it on my social medias since I didn't expect to run into any familiar faces that weren't artists. Even then there were artists to meet and catch up with, so I spent a few hours and commissioned several illustrations with some of the newer/more recent cast members of the Aozora universe.

Castle Point Anime Convention 2022: Commission Scans!

Hello everyone! Last week I attended Castle Point Anime Convention 2022, an anime convention that I've been looking forward to for the longest time, and if you know me I had to purchase some art commissions from the artists at the booths in the artist alley and (finally) set up my new scanner that I got back in Christmas 2020 to scan them, alongside one commission I got from a small event that occurred weeks before CPAC 2022.

Simplifying Aozora: the Series

If any of you follow me elsewhere you probably know that I suffered a pretty bad hard drive failure a few months back, yada yada yada. The main reason why I'm here is to detail a possible change to the series if it ever begins serious production since roughly half the ideas I come up for it stopped being relevant to me.

This namely affects two of the sub-series of Aozora games, namely the Aozora's Adventure 64 and Aozora's Adventure RPG concepts. These two games, each of which would come with their own sequels, would be much, much more bloated compared to the large but still constrained format of the mainline 2D-focused Aozora's Adventure trilogy (including the Metroidvania-styled Aozora and the Mirror of Illusion and the two "Gaiden" game concepts, Aozora Gaiden and Virtual Aozora) and the Rock-Aozora series with its six planned main entries and four Game Boy-style entries. The two Aozora 3D World games and the rhythm game Aozora Fever would likely still happen, as would Aozora XXL and its followup Aozora Corruption. Keisha, meanwhile, would still get Quest of Keisha and Rebirth of Keisha as offshoot continuations of the first Aozora's Adventure and Aozora Gaiden respectively.

The series would still be contained within arcs, numbered from 1 to 6, each arc representing a two-year timeskip. The jump between Arc 3 and 4, however, is a three-year skip.

While the desire to make games has been there for... almost my entire life, the Aozora series being eleven years old at this point and having a much greater degree of polish than any of my oldest ideas has made me want to attempt a further push at possibly bringing the series to life when I'm not as stressed from the lockdown and the resulting inability to not attend cons and keep my motivation to create strong. The above-mentioned hard drive failure similarly ruined me and I still feel its effects lingering on me. At least I was able to preserve most if not all of the Aozora-themed artwork I have both made and received over the years (from being in my favorites on deviantART to being on my iOS devices) but losing just about everything else, including WIP's, is going to take a long while before I make this new Mac feel more like my own.

Going back to the main topic, maybe expect some of the more complex ideas in the Aozora series not to see the light of day depending on how everything plays out. As for art I'm looking to jump back into drawing full renders again after neglecting it for several years in the next few months, so expect a thing or two to pop up in 2021 even if I go back to standard-size renders (seriously working on a bigger canvas is cool but it's scared me off a good few times when making character art).

The Prism Robots and their future.

While this particular subject isn't one that I bring up too often, I figured I'd talk about it briefly anyways since I have some plans for it.

You all probably remember these seven misfits, the Prism Robots, which I had fabricating in my brain starting from around September 2016 before through 2017 and 2018 and beyond I slowly got the team designed one-by-one by a few artists and now the team is complete. So who are they?

In short, they were designed as a personal take of and a homage to the weaponized/armored boss characters from Inti Creates' Azure Striker Gunvolt series, namely the first and second installments. Some of them ended up being a bit too obvious to whom they were homaging despite the differences between Gunvolt's roster of antagonists and these rainbow-themed androids.

For now, the Prism Robots are keeping their current looks as right now I'm focused on getting what ideas I have left out the door and realized, but sometime in the future if I have both the budget and the time, the seven Prism Robots will get extensive tweaks to their appearances to make the references to Azure Striker Gunvolt more vague.
